Thailand's national team beat the Philippines 1-0 in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 group stage on August 4, extending its unbeaten start in the tournament to three matches.
The match remained deadlocked until Waris Choolthong scored six minutes from time to seal the win. The result lifted Thailand to nine points from three matches in Group B, moving the team closer to the semifinals.
Group B this year comprises Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos, playing a single home-and-away round robin. The group stage runs from July 24 to August 8, with each team playing four matches, and the top two finishers advancing to the knockout rounds, held from August 15 to 26.
Under the schedule, Thailand will host Myanmar in Bangkok on the evening of August 8, while Malaysia hosts the Philippines in Kuala Lumpur at the same time — with the results of both matches set to directly decide who advances from the group.
Thailand has looked steady in recent regional competition, having also gone unbeaten in its first two group matches, with a reasonably balanced performance at both ends of the pitch.
Fans and media alike are increasingly confident the side can carry an unbeaten group-stage record into the knockout rounds, though some have cautioned the team to stay focused for the final match against Myanmar rather than easing off if qualification is already secured.
