Chinese Companies Discuss “Intelligent Manufacturing in China” Going Global: “New Quality Productive Forces Are Not Somewhere Else — They Are in Every Product Going Overseas”

Overseas Network, October 14 — In autumn in Tianjin, talent gathered from near and far. The 7th Overseas Chinese New Media Forum opened in Tianjin on October 14. That afternoon, the sub-forum themed “Fertile Ground of Openness, Linking New Global Opportunities” was held, where representatives of well-known companies from the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area discussed topics including “Intelligent Manufacturing in China” going global, how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the way people produce and live, and connecting global industrial chains.
How do Chinese companies understand “new quality productive forces”? Zhu Shengli, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Yunsheng Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., said new quality productive forces combine factors of production to multiply both the efficiency and the quality of production, and show up as high technology, high efficiency and high quality — and Yunsheng Intelligent has played a big part in that. The “Yun” (cloud) in Yunsheng Intelligent is the “Somersault Cloud,” standing for cloud computing and AI algorithms; the “Sheng” (sage) is the “Great Sage Equal to Heaven,” standing for flight-control algorithms and the low-altitude economy. “Yunsheng Intelligent was born in Zhongguancun on March 7, 2017, and began to grow in Binhai in 2018, entering the power market first and then oil and petrochemical pipeline inspection. Along the way we turned drones into a net in the sky and carried out four technological revolutions, each one a manifestation of new quality productive forces.”
Jin Shengjie, director and general manager of Tianjin Ruiqi Surgical Instruments Co., Ltd.
“When it comes to new quality productive forces, what China’s domestic medical device industry now faces in going global is not only globalizing products but standing firm overseas. The biggest issue is trust in Chinese brands: whether doctors in overseas markets trust and are willing to use devices from Chinese brands,” said Jin Shengjie, director and general manager of Tianjin Ruiqi Surgical Instruments Co., Ltd., sharing his own experience: “The medical device track has long been monopolized by international medical giants, and overseas markets have always been skeptical of our products. About two months ago I attended a digestive-tract summit held in an overseas market, and what I felt first-hand was that our products, refined in China over many years and built with a rigorous high-level quality management system and a high-standard lean operations system, fully embody new quality productive forces. After nearly a year of deep work in overseas markets, we have won customers’ trust, put the value of new quality productive forces into practice, and earned recognition for our product solutions and respect from the industry. In high-end markets such as Europe and Japan we now have praise from doctors, and sales are rising day by day.” Jin said: “The rise of domestic brands represented by Ruiqi gives everyone a shot in the arm: we can go global.”
Dan Xiaoguang, deputy general manager of Tianjin Wangyuan Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.
Dan Xiaoguang, deputy general manager of Tianjin Wangyuan Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., said China’s new quality productive forces have changed fundamentally over the past two decades. “We started in the original design manufacturer (ODM) business, and now our own products dominate; we used to make wedding dresses for others, and now we define the standards ourselves. From products going global to technology going global, this is also a microcosm of ‘Made in China’ upgrading to ‘Intelligent Manufacturing in China.’” New quality productive forces also show in the ability to link up ecosystems. Besides making pool-cleaning robots, Wangyuan has set its sights on two new tracks: underwater cleaning and maintenance, and broader water-related cleaning. “New quality productive forces are not somewhere else; they are in every product we send overseas that can think for itself, and in the lead taken by every Chinese company’s repeated technological innovation.”
Gao Yuanzhe, business development director at the Strategic Expansion Center of UBTECH Robotics Corp Ltd (Shenzhen)
“Humanoid robots are the most intuitive embodiment of new quality productive forces,” said Gao Yuanzhe, business development director at the Strategic Expansion Center of UBTECH Robotics Corp Ltd (Shenzhen). “The company has been around for nearly 15 years. We have always been thinking about how humanoid robots, as an important carrier of new quality productive forces, can empower and reshape how everyone produces and lives. In the process, UBTECH has gradually worked out a route to industrializing humanoid robots: first, deploy humanoid robot applications in standardized industrial scenarios with well-defined tasks; second, expand into commercial service scenarios, with robots taking on all kinds of service tasks; third, bring robots into households as people’s smart housekeepers and companions.” Gao said that in overseas markets — in Europe, Japan and South Korea, the United States and elsewhere — UBTECH has already begun cooperating with several leading local companies.
Mao Xuemei, media director of Atom Robot (阿童木机器人)
Mao Xuemei, media director of Atom Robot, shared the company’s experience of taking new quality productive forces overseas. In earlier years, Atom centered on parallel robots and sent its hardware products around the world. At that time the company exported one set after another of high-performance hardware and broke the long-standing monopoly of overseas brands. Now, the meaning of Made in China has changed: beyond exporting stand-alone hardware, the company roots itself more deeply in local regional characteristics, understands the real industry pain points of different countries, and exports intelligent solutions better suited to local working conditions. “New quality productive forces going global is not merely moving equipment across borders, but taking root with innovation capacity across the ocean.”
