【Eurasia Times, Nanchang/Reporter Wang Zilong】On October 20, overseas Chinese media publishers, editors-in-chief and influencer bloggers on the 2026 tour visited Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine for exchanges, learning about the university’s distinctive approach to education and its results in international exchange.
As an important base for training talent and conducting research in traditional Chinese medicine in Jiangxi Province, Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine is among the first batch of institutions approved by the Ministry of Education to recruit and train international students. Aiming to become a high-level, distinctive university of Chinese medicine that is first-class at home and well known worldwide, it vigorously implements a strategy of internationalizing Chinese medicine, actively advances the training of internationally minded talent, and has established long-term, stable cooperation with research, medical and educational institutions in more than 20 countries and regions.

The university initiated the founding of the “SCO Traditional Medicine University Alliance” and the “SCO International Education Alliance for Traditional Medicine Technology,” advancing the building of platforms for internationalizing Chinese medicine, and has created several cultural exchange platforms, including the Qihuang Chinese Medicine Experience Center for Foreign Dignitaries, the National Collaborative Innovation Platform for the Internationalization of Chinese Medicine Education, and the Global Traditional Medicine Research Institute; it was approved to set up the “China-Portugal Joint Laboratory of Traditional Medicine” and has opened Chinese medicine centers or heat-sensitive moxibustion branches in Portugal, Tunisia, Bulgaria and other countries, and has long sent experts on overseas medical aid missions, contributing a “Jiangzhong good prescription” to help Chinese medicine go abroad and reach the world and further raise China’s image and influence.

These fruitful external exchange results are a microcosm of the Jiangxi traditional Chinese medicine industry’s long accumulation and sudden flourishing. As a major province for Chinese medicine resources, Jiangxi is one of the few provinces in China with a complete industrial chain covering medicinal-herb cultivation, processing and manufacturing, and trade and distribution, and is also one of the country’s seven national comprehensive reform demonstration zones for Chinese medicine. This solid industrial footing and layered policy advantage provides the strongest support for Jiangxi Chinese medicine to go global and carry out broad international cooperation.

Inside the Chinese Medicine Culture Museum, the group’s guests learned about the theoretical system of Chinese medicine on the spot and felt the unique charm of its culture. The halls include the China Traditional Medicine Hall, the China Traditional Pharmacy Hall and the Jiangxi Characteristics Hall, displaying more than 1,000 items — medical instruments, plaques, medical classics and medicinal materials from the Ming and Qing dynasties onward — and combine modern display methods such as robots, VR and holographic imaging to make the historical thread of traditional medicine and pharmacy tangible. Since opening in September 2019, the museum has received more than 55,000 visitors of all levels, has repeatedly been a main stop for experts and leaders attending the SCO Traditional Medicine Forum, and has become an important window for promoting Chinese medicine culture and showcasing and exchanging results in Chinese medicine.
Chinese medicinal cuisine
Afterward, a novel Chinese medicinal-cuisine experience let group members read the wisdom of “medicine and food share the same origin” through their taste buds. Everyone praised Jiangxi’s vivid practice of inheriting and innovating Chinese medicine, saying that Chinese medicine is a highly recognizable calling card of Chinese culture, and that the idea of “medicine and food share the same origin” is accessible and lively, well suited to being turned into content that overseas audiences are happy to accept.
